Description
Our hemp long-sleeve with patch logo is the shirt we reach for from October on. It’s a heavyweight knit, but it’s spun from a finer, softer yarn than a typical heavy shirt, so it carries real warmth without the stiffness or the rough hand you’d expect at this weight. We cut it relaxed through the body and stitch the Marcel Hemp patch logo on the sleeve — the same mark we’ve put on clothes in Santa Barbara since 1989.
Same fiber, finer yarn
We knit this long sleeve from the same natural fiber blend we’ve used for decades — 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton. What’s different is the yarn. We spin this one from a finer, more refined thread and knit it tighter, and that single change is what you feel when you put it on.
A finer thread packs a denser, smoother fabric. You get the same weight and durability, but the surface against your skin is soft from the first wear. Nothing about what the shirt is made of changed. How it’s made did.
Hemp still brings the strength and the structure. Organic cotton allows for the give. The shirt holds its shape season after season rather than getting thin and shapeless the way a lighter knit might.
Warm without overheating
Weight usually means trapped heat. Hemp doesn’t work that way. The fiber is naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, so air keeps moving through the fabric even at this thickness. You get warmth walking to the car in the morning, and you don’t cook when you walk into a heated room — our shirt regulates instead of insulating. That’s why this works as a fall and winter piece where a fleece or synthetic pullover doesn’t.
A relaxed cut
We wanted the cut to be relaxed throughout the body — easy through the chest and shoulders, with room to move. It still holds enough shape to wear on its own without looking like you’re swimming in it. If you want a more fitted, closer-to-the-body look, size down one.
The patch logo
This shirt brings our new patch logo to the mens line, stitched onto the sleeve with a zigzag edge. It’s an update to our original Marcel Hemp mark — Marcel throwing a peace sign, the red block, EST. 1989, Santa Barbara. That logo has been on our clothes since we opened on State Street. We updated it slightly for our off-shoulder top and wanted to bring it to the men’s side; we opted to stitch it rather than print it, so it survives the wash.
Naturally dyed earth tones
This long sleeve comes in naturally dyed, earth-toned colors: natural and olive. The tones come from non-toxic, low-impact dyes, and they pair easily with denim, canvas, and everything else in your closet.
Care and sizing
We pre-wash and pre-shrink every shirt, so the fit you get is the fit you keep. Machine wash cold, tumble dry on low, or hang dry. Available in unisex sizes M, L, and XL.
Made the right way
We design our own clothing here in Santa Barbara and produce it through fair trade partners using eco-friendly practices. Hemp grows with a fraction of the water conventional cotton needs and without heavy pesticide use—one of the main reasons we built the whole shop around it in 1989 and never switched.
